Ladybug has been big into dinosaurs lately. I mean BIG. We live and breath dinos over here. We play dinosaurs all day long, we read dinosaur books (we checked out pretty much every single dinosaur book the library had, age appropriate or not) and we even watch the movie Walking with the Dinosaurs all the time.
We are loving them so much that Ladybug wants to have her fourth birthday party be all about dinosaurs (ok lets stop and take a breath here - FOUR years old?! Ah! How did this happen so fast?!) I saw this idea for fossil cookies on Pinterest a while ago and thought it would be so fun to try out for her party! They could not be easier to make, and turned out so dang cute. Ladybug loved helping me make them, and we loved eating them, too!
This isn't really a recipe so much as it is a process. Take any soft cookie recipe you like - peanut butter cookies, drop sugar cookies, even a snicker doodle or a chocolate cookie would work. Make the cookies as per the recipe directions, roll the dough into balls, roll the balls in a sugar or cinnamon/sugar mix and slightly squash with a cup to flatten. Don't flatten it all the way, just enough to give you a nice flat surface to work on (you still want your cookies to be thick enough so they don't turn to crackers when you bake them).
Then gently make your impressions. We used a mixture of plastic dinosaurs and bugs (and yes, mom, we washed them first!). Make sure your impressions are a little less than halfway through the cookie so that they don't get lost when the cookie puffs up as it bakes. Bake as directed on the recipe, let cool, and enjoy!
See, told you. Super easy, super cute.
** Soooo solo sorry for everyone who has been coming to my blog lately and unable to see anything! Apparently the girl who did my design shut her business down and took all my web-hosted design with her! :( She isn't returning my emails and so I don't think its coming back. Since I am definitely not flutent in HTML coding, my blog probably isn't going to be pretty for a while, or at least until I can figure out what to do!!
